Gas cylinders alert after outbuilding blaze

One outbuilding and a shed were completely destroyed by a fire in Coulsdon.

A small part of garden decking was also damaged in the blaze, while two gas cylinders were cooled to an ambient temperature and removed as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to deal with the blaze in Marlpit Lane on Thursday evening.

The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received their first call alerting them to the fire shortly after 7pm and deployed crews from Purley, Wallington and Forest Hill fire stations. The incident was over by around 8.45pm.
