Greenwich could get new rail links with north London

By Lachlan Leeming, Local Democracy Reporter

New railway lines connecting Greenwich to boroughs across the Thames are among plans now open for public consultation.

A boom for the area would see 15,500 new homes and 8,000 jobs created.

A potential extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) would go from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via the Thamesmead Waterfront site.

Public consultation on the Abbey Wood Opportunity Area Planning Framework (OAPF). started in December.

A beefed-up bus service is also planned along the Victoria line.

An alternative lower growth option, which would see 9,000 homes and 6,000 jobs created over the next two decades, would see a London Overground extension connecting Barking Riverside to outer South-east London via Thamesmead.

The area is one of the largest of the 38 sites identified as suitable for large-scale development in the Mayor’s London Plan.

The Mayor’s office last week announced a series of drop-in sessions for residents on the plans.

These workshops are on the following dates:

  • February 1, 10am-1pm, Sainsbury’s Abbey Wood, SE2 9NU
  • February 15, 1pm-4pm, Sainsbury’s Abbey Wood, SE2 9NU
  • February 20, 5pm-8pm, Thamesmere library, SE28 8DT
  • February 25, 5pm-8pm, Sports Club Thamesmead, Mead Bar, SE28 8NJ
  • February 26, 10am-5.30pm, Thamesmead Information Hub, DA18 4BW
