Greenwich street traders join forces to donate meals for hero NHS staff
A group of 15 street food traders have banded together to donate meals to NHS staff.
Food trader Ehla.Eat, based at Greenwich Market, has spearheaded the food drive for medics at Lewisham Hospital.
Other backers are Sports Banger, which designs and sells NHS T-shirts and hoodies and then uses the proceeds to cover the costs for the food.
Melissa and Theo, of Ehla, said: “Our plans for summer 2020 – including opening up two new sites in Central London, award ceremonies and TV filming – flew out the window with the arrival of Covid-19.
“Greenwich Market, our home for six years, has temporarily closed and so we decided to help feed the staff at NHS Lewisham with our super nutritious, joyfully colourful and tasty Eastern Mediterranean food.”
The donations have been made possible by sponsors Sports Banger, Club Mexicana and INK.
Jonny Banger tweeted: “It’s been quite amazing working local to local rather than throwing air money into a big totaliser trust fund. Thank you all.”
Ehla.Eat have also set up home deliveries to the SE3, SE10, SE13 and SE12 postcodes, delivering fruit and vegetable boxes and Eastern Mediterranean groceries.
