Labour win Lewisham East by-election with reduced majority

Labour’s Janet Daby has won the Lewisham East by-election.

Labour held the South-east London seat with a reduced majority.

Mrs Daby received 5,629 more votes than second place Liberal Democrat’s candidate Lucy Salek.

But this figure is down from the 21,213 winning margin that Ms Daby’s predecessor, Heidi Alexander, won by in last year’s general election.

But the turnout, 33.35 per cent, was less than half the 69.3 per cent last year.

The Tory’s were knocked into third place.

Labour recieved 50.2 percent of the vote, the Lib Dem’s gained 24.6 per cent, the Conservatives had 14.4 per cent, the Green Party achieved 3.6 per cent and the Women’s Equality Party rounds off the top five with 2.3 per cent.
