Lewisham and Deptford MP wins national charity award

Vicky Foxcroft, the MP for Lewisham and Deptford, has won an award for promoting positive change for disabled people from the national disability charity, Sense.

Ms Foxcroft, who became the Shadow Minister for Disabled People in April this year, was named ‘Parliamentarian of the Year’ at the Sense Awards 2020.

Her work to highlight issues relating to disability includes: Supporting Sense’s #ForgottenFamilies campaign calling on Government to reinstate services for families caring for disabled adults at home during lockdown; raising questions about disability in Parliament; repeatedly raising the impact of Covid-19 on disabled people, including accessible information, face coverings and shielding.

Vicky Foxcroft MP said: “Thank you so much to Sense for this award and to my team for all their hard work and support. It’s been an honour to work with Sense over the past eight months. They do a fantastic job of highlighting the needs of those with complex disabilities.

There is still plenty more to be done in the fight to ensure disabled people are not forgotten as we emerge from the pandemic, and I hope we can continue our positive working relationship.”

The Sense Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of people with complex disabilities, as well as the staff, carers, family members, volunteers and fundraisers who support them.
