Light show will mark new Tube stations

The new Northern line Tube stations will soon have a light show installed above them, stretching 3km.

The £1billion Northern line extension to Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station has been more than 10 years in the making, and opened on September 20.

The large-scale Line of Light installation will project the underground route into the sky and illuminate the stations and buildings along the way with visual projections.

The installation will appear between 6.30pm and 10pm on October 29 and 30, with free daytime activities taking place at two festival hubs near the new Tube stations.

An accompanying series of soundscape podcasts will capture the music, voices and atmosphere of the neighbourhoods above the tunnels of the Northern line extension.

The light festival aims to highlight the route of the new Tube tunnels which connect Battersea and Nine Elms with Kennington and the rest of the Northern line.

Wandsworth councillor Steffi Sutters, cabinet member of community services and open spaces, said: “The festival will be a landmark celebration of the historic opening of the extension, which is a complete game-changer for this part of Battersea and Nine Elms.”
