Man arrested after car hits four people in West End
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car hit four people in London’s West End on Christmas morning.
Police were called to reports of a crash and a car driving on the wrong side of the road in Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho, at around 12.45am.
Four pedestrians were taken to hospital. One remains in a life-threatening condition, police said.
The driver, a 31-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
It’s believed that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub before getting in his car and mounting the pavement.
Police are treating it as an isolated incident and have said it is not terrorism related.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy said: “Officers responded quickly to this report, working closely with City of London Police to arrest a man within minutes.
“Detectives are quickly progressing enquiries as part of this investigation.
“Several scenes remain in place at the location today.”
