Man charged after hit-and-run that killed delivery driver

A man has been charged following a hit and run that killed a 44-year-old delivery driver.

Abdirahman Ahmed, 19, of Lilford Road, Camberwell, appeared in court on Saturday charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving uninsured and unlicensed as well as failing to stop at the scene of an incident.

He was arrested by officers last Thursday.

The charges relate to an incident in Leigham Court Road, Streatham on May 11, following a collision between a car and motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle, Ronaldo Medeiros De Oliveira, 44, died at the scene.

His daughter, Gabriele Oliveira, told the South London Press: “He was a hero.

“He was a hard worker. Always done everything for me and my mum. He left Brazil to offer me a better life and give me a better future.

“He was an amazing dad and husband, loved by many of his friends.”

A fundraiser that has been set up by the family to allow Ronaldo’s body to be taken back to Brazil for a funeral has reached £17,000. You can donate here.
