Merton College supplies food for vulnerable people

Families struggling through the coronavirus crisis are getting food packages from their local college.

Surplus food for residents with cash problems is being delivered through Merton College’s fridges and freezers after being prepared at its catering and hospitality training school.

Merton council is then delivering the packages, supplied by Fareshare, a food distribution charity.

Supplies are sent out to the Salvation Army, Sustainable Merton, Tooting and Mitcham Football Club, Wimbledon Guild, Dons Local Action, Kommunity Kitchen and the Association for Polish Family PYZA – which are then delivered by volunteers to Merton residents.

Supplies include fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled goods and long-life produce have come from the commercial sector’s surpluses.
