More than 170 evacuated after Southwark hotel fire
More than 170 people were evacuated from a hotel in the early hours this morning after a fire broke out in the kitchen.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled the blaze in Great Suffolk Street, Southwark at around 5.20am.
Guests staying at the hotel managed to escape the building before firefighters arrived at the scene and there were no reports of any injuries.
Crews from Dowgate, Dockhead and Lambeth fire stations brought the fire under control by around 6am.
The incident is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in the kitchen.
