New basketball club takes flight in Bromley in response to growing demand
A new basketball club has launched in Bromley, opening training and team places for junior and senior players.
Bromley Phoenix Basketball Club has released its summer training programme ahead of the season starting in September.
The club will be based across the borough at schools and sports halls including Harris Girls’ Academy in Lennard Rd, Beckenham and Orion Eden Park in Balmoral Ave, Beckenham.
Co-founder and coach Andy Roser said: “I’ve seen a monumental growth in young players getting involved in basketball over the past decade.
“Participation at local clubs all over South-East London has been increasing, as well as in our schools, and we have established Bromley Phoenix to meet this need.
“Not only will we deliver exceptional coaching to young people but also develop talent on and off the court.”
The club will be set up a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and hold training sessions for U14 and U16 players with two teams entering the highly competitive London Central Venue League (CVL) and one senior team competing in the prestigious Medway League in the Autumn.
Plans to expand the training to other age groups are underway.
A weekly series of summer training sessions will also start in early June for players to improve skills and fitness in the off-season.
Co-founder and coach Rob MacAllister said: “Setting up our club has long been an ambition, and I’m excited with what we can bring to the borough.
“The charitable aims of the club are very clear and built on the values of community, inclusivity and commitment to making lives better.
“This truly is a new era of basketball in Bromley.”
