Oasis Academy Shirley Park in Addiscombe celebrate exam results by Toby Porter

A school’s teachers and pupils are celebrating after hearing their exam results were among the top one per cent in the country.

Last summer students at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, in Addiscombe, achieved the best rates of progress across Croydon for A-levels and vocational subjects.

The academy’s A-level progress score has been improving each year, climbing from +0.2 in 2017, to +0.39 in 2018 and +0.50 this year.

This means students in the sixth form make half a year of extra progress in each subject compared to pupils nationally. The academy’s progress is now well above national average, and the results mean the school is in the top 50 sixth forms and colleges in the country.

Vocational progress scores rose from +0.13 to +0.30 in the last year, putting it in the top seven per cent for progress across vocational subjects.

Saqib Chaudhri, principal at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, commented on the academy’s success, saying; “We are thrilled for all of our students on their progress – they have worked hard and reaped the rewards.

“We wish them all the best on their next steps, wherever that may be. Their collective achievements are an inspiration to the younger students of what can be achieved.”

Andy Booth, executive principal at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, added: “What a wonderful set of progress results for our sixth form students. We are deeply proud of our students’ success this year, which are amongst the best in the country.

“Credit to the staff from across the academy – many of our sixth-form students have been with us throughout their secondary education. A special thanks to our Sixth Form team led by Ian Walsh.”
