A woman was taken to hospital after trying to protect her dog which was mauled to death.
Emilia Savova was walking her black Pomeranian, Cavi, on Southfields Recreation Ground, Ealing, last week when her pet was attacked by an unknown dog.
The dog, believed to be an American Bulldog, was not on a leash or wearing a muzzle when it “came out of the blue” and attacked Cavi without warning.
Mrs Savova screamed for help and started kicking but the suspected owner, a “lady with red hair”, was some distance away and did not call him off, she claimed.
She said: “I tried to help him but I couldn’t do anything more, so I just lay on the floor to protect him and that’s when the dog started biting me.
“I was crying and asking the owner to come and help me but she just ran away. “I wanted to save his life. I didn’t think of me.”

Police were called at just after 3pm on Thursday, April 11, but by the time they arrived the dog and its owner had left the scene and Cavi was dead.
“It’s not the dog that is guilty. How can you leave a dog that you know is aggressive without a leash or a muzzle?”, said Mrs Savova.
Mrs Savova was taken to Charing Cross Hospital where she was treated for multiple fractures and infections on her hand.
The attack happened just two days before nine-year-old Frankie Macritchie was killed by a dog in his trailer at Tencreek Holiday Park in Cornwall.
A 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and the dog has been transferred to kennels, where it remains.
Mrs Savova said: “If I had been with a kid, this dog could have killed the kid.”
When the owner finally called off the dog after a witness arrived on the scene, Mrs Savova chased them and managed to take a picture on her mobile phone despite her injuries.
“This is the kind of thing that only happens in the movies, not in your local park,” said Mrs Savova who has been walking her dog in Southfields Recreation Ground for the past 12 years.
“I’m so thankful to the whole community. I can’t believe how many people have shown their support and offered to help. It was incredible,” she said.
Police have been speaking to an individual in connection with the incident and a dog has been seized. Enquiries were ongoing as this newspaper went to press.
