Protest against Trump’s ‘ethnic cleansing’ plan for Gaza

Activist group Merton Friends of the Earth were among thousands of protesters who marched from Whitehall to the US embassy in Nine Elms to protest at Donald Trump’s plans to oust two million Palestinians from Gaza.

Those taking part included Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North, and actress Juliet Stevenson.

Mr Corbyn said at the rally: “I am calling for the whole world to reject Donald Trump’s plans.”

Protesters marched with signs and banners that read “Hands Off Gaza”, “Stand Up to Trump”, and “Mr Trump Canada is not your 51st state, Gaza is not your 52nd.”

Auriel Glanville – a member of Merton Palestinian Solidarity Campaign and Merton Friends of the Earth – said: “Donald Trump’s has suggested the US could redevelop the war-torn territory of Gaza into the ‘Riviera of the Middle East’, but would not allow the Palestinian people to return, which is ethnic cleansing.

“Also, Donald Trump has said that there will be no Palestinian state, which is the only way that peace will be achieved.”
