Rundown church hall could be turned into flats

By Robert Firth, Local Democracy Reporter

A rundown Clapham church hall is set to be revamped under plans to build a gym and nine new flats in the building.

St Mary’s Hall, near Clapham Common Tube station, is in poor condition and in need of refurbishment.

Proposals to renovate the Victorian building, in St Alphonsus Road, would see the ground floor of the hall re-jigged to create a modern community hall and gym.

The first and second floors of the building would be turned into nine homes, including five one-bedroomed flats, three two-bedroomed bed flats and a single three-bed flat.

An extra storey would also be added to the building, according to plans submitted to Lambeth council.

The community hall within St Mary’s Hall is currently not in use. At present, the building includes a single three-bed flat split across two floors. Developer Monheim Real Estate UK has brought forward the latest proposals for the rundown building.
