South London film production gets boost from anonymous donor

A community group which trains young people in media skills has been able to continue making a movie thanks to a £5,000 donation.

Unique Talent have been filming all over South London to create a feature film 100 mistakes.

It went into production in November, funded by the Backstage Trust. But money would have run out without an injection of funds from an anonymous donor.

Last month they filmed a scene with professional dancers and musicians including Lil Shackz, from South London, who performed on camera, and dancer Elisangla.

The scene has the main character, an entrepreneur, launching his firm at a party with Caribbean dancers rappers who perform at tables.

It was shot at the Limitless VR bar in Croydon, with other South London musicians such as Greedy and Jiggi the Hero appearing on set.

Another scene was shot in Park Road, Croydon, next to Crystal Palace Park’s athletics stadium, where the main character was selling products to his local neighbourhood as a youth.

Actors were recruited from Wimbledon Young Actors Club.

The movie is directed by award-winning helmsman Adriano Cherellini and and Joshua Mansano is director of Photography.

Media production company Sport for Life trained young people in the skills of making a film.

Executive producer and scriptwriter Jerome Sewell said: “Being trained in these sorts of skills is so important.

“Young people need to have inspiration to work in these industries.

They have dreams to be involved and we want to make that a reality. With the right support, they have the ability to change the industry.

“That is what we want to help them do.

“The donor does not want to be named but we are very grateful.”
