South London hospital receives £10,000 donation for new children’s unit

A fundraising appeal to support children and young people receiving care at a new children’s unit at a South London hospital has received a boost.

The Morrisons Foundation has donated £9,459 to Croydon Health Services NHS Trust Charity’s Play Appeal, which is funding interactive play zones, toys and relaxation rooms within the state of the art unit.

It is set to open in 2022.

The Foundation’s donation will fund a traverse climbing wall as part of the Paediatric Courtyard’s Junior Play Area.

Elaine Clancy, Chief Nurse at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust said: “We’re incredibly thankful to the Morrisons Foundation for this generous donation which will make a real difference to the families we support.

“Having a child in hospital can take a real emotional toll on loved ones and we’re keen to offer all the support we can to our patients and their relatives, whether that’s through a relaxing space for parents or through fun and engaging play zones for children, to offer a welcome distraction from the stresses that a hospital stay can bring.

“This climbing wall, alongside the rest of our fantastic playgrounds, will give children the chance to experience normality, fun and play away from a clinical setting.”

Tina Champion, Morrisons Community Champion for the Purley Way store, said:  “When Croydon Health Services Charitable Fund approached us for help, we could immediately recognise the challenges they face.

“We are delighted to fund the climbing wall to help children reach new heights”
