Two hexagonal tower blocks with more than 100 flats planned in Croydon

More than 100 new flats could soon be built in Croydon’s Purley Way.

The pair of towers would replace a kitchen shop next door to Chinese supermarket Wing Yip.

This week, the deputy Mayor of London for planning concluded that he is happy for Croydon council to make a decision on the application, which was submitted in March 2021.

If successful, furniture shop Natuzzi Italia and Halfords will be demolished to make way for two hexagonal blocks of seven and 12-storeys tall.

The plans, submitted by Stonegate Homes, include a co-working space on the ground floor linking the two blocks together.

There would be a total of 62 car parking spaces and of the 116 flats, 70 would have two-bedrooms.

The planning application reads: “Stonegate Homes and the design team have sought to optimise the potential of the site through extensive positive engagement and high quality design.

“A process of engagement that has spanned over a two year period and has included careful site analysis, testing, independent review, positive engagement with council officers, ward members and councillors.

“This proposal replaces existing commercial premises with a mixed use residential building that responds sensitively to the character of the local context and the latest proposals for use and scale set out in the council backed master plan for Purley Way.”

The plans have received 26 varying public objections and it will now be up to Croydon Council to make a decision on them.
