Wimbledon doctor runner-up in national autism awards

A Wimbledon doctor has been named runner-up at a national autism awards ceremony for the second year running.

Dr Gloria Dura-Vila took second place at the National Autistic Society’s Autism Professionals Awards in the outstanding health care category professional.

Dr Dura-Vila, pictured above, is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist and the medical lead for the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Pathway in Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

She also has a private specialist Autism clinic in Harley Street.

She was shortlisted by an independent panel who were looking for high standards of innovation, creativity, impact and sustainability.

The award gala dinner took place on Thursday in Birmingham, as part of the National Autistic Society’s Professional Conference.

Dr Dura-Vila said: “I’m incredibly honoured. Being recognised in two consecutive years have brought me joy and has renewed my determination to make the Autism assessment process truly patient-centred, combining high quality and cost-effectiveness.

“I am passionate about explaining what having Autism means to the children with this diagnosis in the best possible way, in my clinical work and through my books. This recognition deserves to be shared with my wonderful team and especially with the children and families that I am very fortunate to serve.”

Dr Dura-Vila lives in Wimbledon with her husband and their two young children. She was born in Spain but has worked in the NHS her entire professional life.
