Brentford attacker set to resume AFC Wimbledon loan next week after recovering from knee issue

Brentford loanee Nathan Young-Coombes will be back at AFC Wimbledon on Monday after returning to full fitness from a knee injury.

The 19-year-old former Crystal Palace and Chelsea academy youngster had returned to his Premier League parent club for treatment following the knee injury he picked up in the 2-0 home defeat to Northampton on September 13.

Young-Coombes recorded five goal contributions in his opening 10 games after penning a season-long loan for Jackson’s side.

The former Rangers forward has missed the previous 10 League Two outings for the Dons.

“He will be back in with us training hopefully on Monday,” Jackson told the South London Press. “He has been in full training with Brentford all week. They wanted him to do a week of training with them.

“I’m really excited to have him back. He was a big loss for us when he got injured – he was one of the key reasons behind our good start.

“He was on form and scoring goals, but then he got injured, and that coincided, along with losing a couple of others, our little dip in form.

“To get him back will be brilliant for us. It gives us another attacking option, and that’s somewhere on the pitch where we are a little bit light.”

Lee Brown was forced off in the 43rd minute during the 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra. Paul Osew pulled up in the 23rd minute of Wimbledon’s 3-2 EFL Trophy win over Crawley Town with an ankle injury.

“They’re in the very early stages of their rehab outside – it will be a few weeks,” added Jackson.

“I don’t want to put a timeframe on it, but they’re progressing nicely and we’re happy with where they’re at.

“But it will be a while still before we see them.”
