Bromley boss Woodman left unhappy at lack of quality in FA Cup upset against Hereford FC

Bromley were knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 fourth qualifying round defeat to National League North side Hereford FC on Saturday.

Andy Woodman made four changes from their 1-1 National League draw with Gateshead with Callum Reynolds, Corey Whitley, Jude Arthurs and James Vennings dropping out. The former Palace, Newcastle and Arsenal goalkeeping coach brought Billy Bingham, Chris Bush, Louis Dennis and Harry Forster into the starting line-up.

The Ravens went behind in the 53rd minute when Harry Pritchard curled a free-kick from distance around the wall and beyond Tom Smith.

The South Londoners drew level in the 72nd minute through substitute Corey Whitely, who collected a searching pass from Ethan Coleman on the edge of the box. Whitely linked up with Michael Cheek and smashed a shot past Dale Eve.

Hereford sealed their place in the first-round draw in second-half added time when Orrin Pendley reacted quickest inside the area to tap Ryan McLean’s headed back across goal into the net.

“We had some good chances,” Woodman told the club’s official YouTube channel. “We didn’t take the chances and some of our quality was questionable.

“In wide areas, we kept putting crosses into the goalkeeper’s hands – we made it easy for them.

“It was an FA Cup tie – they sat back and sucker-punched us. We didn’t show enough quality.

“People would think that we didn’t even work on training. We can’t keep having these games where we don’t put teams to bed.

“We created a lot of chances and we need to get better at seeing teams off. We need to make the keeper work for his living.”

Bromley travel to Chesterfield United this weekend. Both sides are level on points in the National League play-off spots, with Paul Cook’s Spireites just above the Ravens having scored more goals this season.

Bromley find themselves six points behind top of the table Notts County.
