‘But is it?’ – Simon Jordan makes Joao Felix admission as Chelsea close on Atletico Madrid loan signing
Simon Jordan believes that Chelsea paying a loan fee in the region of £9million for a six-month loan deal is not a financial gamble.
Graham Potter’s side, who are currently 10th in the Premier League, look set to secure their fourth signing of the January transfer window.
Defender Benoit Badiashile, forward David Datro Fofana and midfielder Andrey Santos have already joined.
Atletico Madrid forward Felix is allowed to leave the Wanda Metropolitano after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone.
Chelsea are reportedly paying a fee in the region of £9million just for the six-month loan, with no future deal in place.
The two-time Champions League winners take on Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
When responding to whether signing Joao Felix just on loan was a big financial gamble for the Blues, Jordan, speaking on TalkSport, said: “But is it?
“Put the wages to one side, because they are what they are. You get a player to play for you – you pay his wages.
“The real issue is what you’re paying for him on a loan fee. If you bought a player for £60, £70 or £80million and put him on a four-year contract, he would depreciate by £9million over the six months you have got him for.
“You’re paying £9million to have him for six months. If you had him for four years and you paid £80million, you would be paying £9million for six months – it’s the same thing.
“If he brings them up three spaces in the league at £2.5 to £3million a spot, there is his loan fee.”
