Crystal Palace boss makes admission over Adam Wharton’s England U21 involvement
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner expects Adam Wharton to withdraw from England U21 duty.
The midfielder has been carrying a groin issue this season but was named in the England U21 squad for their final European Championship qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
Wharton withdrew from the last international squad under interim coach Ben Futcher after being omitted from Lee Carsley’s first England senior squad.
The 20-year-old, who was involved in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024, has started every Premier League game this season.
“We’re in talks with the U21s. He will go there to have a medical assessment,” said Glasner.
“We expect that he comes back again because he struggles and he is still struggling.
“It’s about managing him as good as possible. We know it’s not a good situation. It could help if the England U21s support Adam as well.”
