Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira ‘concerned’ about Premier League rivals’ transfer market activity
Patrick Vieira has admitted he is concerned with those around Crystal Palace in the Premier League table being active in the transfer market.
But the Eagles boss was confident that the South Londoners would bring in the right players “very soon”.
Aston Villa – three points above Palace in the table – have strengthened Unai Emery’s options by signing left-back Alex Moreno from Real Betis.
While Wolves and Southampton – both in the bottom three of the Premier League – are spending in order to back their new managers.
“The teams around us are active in the market, of course, it’s a concern,” said Vieira.
“It’s important for us to improve the squad, and hopefully, we will bring in the right players very soon.
“But we won’t bring players just for the sake of it to bring in numbers.
“We will bring players to make us stronger and challenge the players we have already. If we just wanted numbers, we would keep those players who have gone out on loan and use them as a number.”
Palace have a number of players out of contract in the summer, with Wilfried Zaha, Luka Milivojevic, Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Ward and James McArthur all into the final six months of their deals.
“Having all those players at the end of the contract at the end of the season is something we’ll have to discuss with the chairman”, said Vieira.
“But at the moment, the focus is on how we can get our form back and win games.
“Those questions will come, today is not the time to talk about that.”
