Decision for Dons chief as Will Nightingale set to be available for Boreham Wood tie

AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson has a decision to make ahead of the third round FA Cup clash against Boreham Wood tomorrow with defender Will Nightingale potentially available.

The 26-year-old suffered sprains to his ankle, ACL and posterolateral corner in training in mid-October but is ready to be included in the matchday squad for the trip to take on Luke Garrard’s side.

The Dons progressed to the third round after an exhilarating 4-3 win against League One rivals Cheltenham Town.

Wandsworth-born Nightingale had played every minute of the League One campaign under Robinson before succumbing to injury in a training session.

“Will could be ready for this weekend, so I just have a decision to make,” said Robinson. “Will is really close to being ready, and it looks as though Paul Kalambayi is ahead of schedule too. We thought that he was out until the end of February, that could be bought forward, the way he’s going.”

Ayoub Assal is also back in training after missing the 3-0 defeat to Oxford United following a positive Covid-19 test.

Brentford loanee Aaron Pressley suffered a hamstring injury before Christmas. Robinson said: “Aaron has seen a specialist at Brentford because they have more resources than us.

“The early signs, we’re hoping, is that it’s not going to be as long as we first thought.”
