Dons boss ‘disappointed’ after defeat at Gillingham

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson could not hide his disappointment after the 2-1 defeat at Gillingham.

The Dons opened the scoring in the second half through January signing Ali Al-Hamadi in the 52nd minute.

But Gillingham equalised through Max Ehmer six minutes later.

Former Wimbledon defender Cheye Alexander, who left the club in the summer to sign for the Gills, scored the winner eight minutes later.

The Dons are now 15th in League Two and are 10 points off the play-off places.

“I’m disappointed,” Jackson told the club’s official YouTube channel.

“A 15-minute period of the game has taken it away from us.

“We were poor in that period and allowed Gillingham to get back into the game, despite having started so well.

“The first half was a poor spectacle – really scrappy.

“We got through to half time well in the game. We started the second half really well.

“To take the lead and not capitalise on it – we let them off in that period.

“We allowed them back in the game and they capitalised.”

The Dons host Stevenage – currently third in League Two – at Plough Lane on Tuesday night.

Jackson was without Alex Pearce and Paul Kalambyi at the Priestfield Stadium, with Will Nightingale and Lee Brown starting in the centre-back spots.

“Pelly came off [today] feeling his calf,” said the Dons boss.

“Woody took a bit of a whack in the first half. We will have to assess those boys. Pearcy will be touch and go for Tuesday.

“Hopefully, we might have Kalambyi available, but we will have to see how he got on today with his rehab.

“There is going to be a lot of juggling to do with what has come out of today and a game coming again so soon.”
