‘Don’t disrespect the point’ – Mark Robinson on 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury Town
Mark Robinson said he would never “disrespect the point” after his AFC Wimbledon side drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury Town.
The Dons opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Ayoub Assal turned home Ethan Chislett’s cross past Marko Marosi.
The visitors scored the equaliser when Daniel Udoh stabbed the ball past Nik Tzanev in the 58th minute after Robinson’s side failed to clear their lines.
Wimbledon had 13 shots during the contest – five of which were on target – but failed to find the winner to secure their first three points of 2022.
It was the South Londoners’ fourth draw from their last five games.
“You always want three points, but don’t ever disrespect the point – you must never. We have done that a bit this season,” said Robinson.

“There have been four or five games where we have come away with nothing when we should have come away with a point. It’s so tight down there, so you should never disrespect the point – it’s always better than nothing.
“Everyone thought we were really good in the first half, but we were okay.
“We started very well, and we got a really good goal. We had more gears to go up in the second half, but then they started landing on more second balls than us – they got momentum from that.
“They have got the goal, which I need to look at again as a couple of the lads thought they could have done better with it.
“In the final third, we just didn’t have enough to unlock them. It was quite an even game in the end in the second half.”

Speaking about the mood in the dressing room after the game, Robinson added: “They’re obviously frustrated because they want to win games.
“But the mood is always good because we know what we’re doing and we know what we’re building. Also, despite the draw, we have had a debut start for Terry Ablade and a debut for Tomas (Kalinauskas), and Aaron Cosgrave came on again and did a lot better.
“We know where we are, we know where we are going, and we know the wins will come. It’s a time for clear heads, focus, and no panic – there are 57 points to play for.”
