Every word from Patrick Vieira’s Chelsea post-match press conference – Crystal Palace boss on Joachim Andersen’s injury, the referee and goalscoring frailties

Crystal Palace suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Chelsea on Sunday after a second-half header from Kai Havertz gave the Blues all three points.

The Eagles had five shots at Chelsea’s goal, but could not find a way past Kepa.

Vieira, Will Hughes, Cheick Doucoure, Nathaniel Clyne and Eberechi Eze were issued by yellow cards by referee Peter Bankes.

Here is every word from Patrick Vieira’s post-match press conference:

Patrick, do feel as though you deserved something from that?

“Yes, I think we did enough to at least get a point from today.”

You seemed quite unhappy with the match officials – you got a yellow – anything specific or not getting the run of decisions?

“There was a lot of frustration on my side because we got too many decisions against us.”

Do you think there is perhaps a lack of respect for Crystal Palace in games against so-called bigger side?

“What is important is to understand that we don’t want any kind of favour – we want to be treated like everybody else.

“There were too many decisions today which went against us. The frustration grows from game after game – this is something I can accept.”

Joachim Andersen came off injured. How is he?

“We don’t know yet.“

What was the problem?

“It’s the calf.”

Pleased with James Tomkins’ performance?

“Yes.”

Not scored in eight of your 18 Premier League games this season. How concerning is that for you?

“The other side to look at it was the chances we created.

“We created enough chances to score goals today. The problem is not about today the most difficult aspect – creating chances – it’s about scoring.

“We should score more goals – that is a fact.

“At the moment, it’s true, we lost a little bit of our confidence. We don’t take our chances – we have to keep working on that side.”

Why do you think your side have lost that confidence?

“When you don’t win games, you start to lose confidence. But on the other side, which is the message I have sent to the players, is to look at the performances.

“The performance today was positive.”

Do you think they hear the message and respond to that?

“Yeah. We did it last year and we will do it again.”
