‘Exciting asset’ – Gillingham boss delivers verdict on Crystal Palace loanee’s League Two debut
John Coleman is backing Crystal Palace loanee Asher Agbinone to be an ‘exciting asset’ for Gillingham.
The 19-year-old joined the Gills this January on a six-month loan and was handed a starting role for his League Two debut in Coleman’s first game in charge.
Agbinone, who played as the number 10 in a 4-2-3-1, lasted 82 minutes as the Gills fell to a 1-0 defeat to Doncaster.
The winger by trade was named as Gillingham’s Man of the Match on their social media.
“I think there were signs there of young Asher exciting the fans,” said Coleman.
“It’s great when players get the ball and the fans start cheering.
“Once he gets his head around playing League Two football, I think he can be an exciting asset for us.
“He is still getting a handle on the game. It’s a different style of football, playing League Two or in the U21s.
“Being in and around the first team is a completely different sport.
“He’s got the ability to be able to handle it.”
