Former Charlton defender pens new deal at Premier League side
Tom Lockyer has signed a new contract of an undisclosed length with Premier League side Luton Town.
Defender Lockyer has begun pre-season training after being forced off in the play-off final win over Coventry in May with atrial fibrillation, which, according to the NHS, is “an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate”.
He required heart surgery to address the issue which saw him collapse in the eighth minute at Wembley.
Luton won promotion after beating Coventry on penalties. They will kick off their Premier League campaign at Brighton on August 12.
The 28-year-old made 43 appearances during his time with Charlton at The Valley before leaving for Kenilworth Road in 2020.
He has made more than 100 appearances for Luton.
“I’d really like to build something special here at Luton,” Lockyer said.
“I’ve got an incredible relationship with the fans, the manager, all the boys. I love the club and I love being here.
“It’s incredible what we achieved last season. To have the chance to play with Luton in the Premier League will be something that’s really special to me.”
