Former Charlton youngster completes League One season-long loan

Oxford United have signed former Charlton Athletic youngster James Beadle on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Goalkeeper Beadle left Charlton in January 2022 after turning down a professional contract with the Addicks to join Premier League side Brighton.

Beadle, 18, who has been on loan with League Two side Crewe Alexandra during the second half of the season, spent nine years at The Valley.

Oxford boss Liam Manning said: “He is highly rated and for good reason – he’s tall, athletic, commands his area and is a modern keeper who distributes the ball really well.

“Even though he’s only 18, he has a fantastic attitude, and we can’t wait to start working with him to continue his development.”

Beadle was included in the England squad for this summer’s Under-20 World Cup in Argentina.
