Gary Cahill highlights emergence of young talent as a positive of Crystal Palace’s season – and compares teammate to Manchester United man Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Gary Cahill has highlighted the signing of Ebere Eze and the emergence of Tyrick Mitchell as the positives of Crystal Palace’s season.

Eze, a summer recruit from Queens Park Rangers, has scored three times in 28 appearances and has settled well during his first season at Premier League level.

Left-back Mitchell, an academy graduate, has featured 14 times after breaking into the first team towards the end of last season. Cahill likened the 21-year-old to the former Palace defender and now-Manchester United man Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

“The positives from this season, the signing of Eze was big and to give him the opportunity to express himself in this league and to develop as a player was big,” Cahill told Premier League Productions when asked to name positives from the campaign.

“You can see the potential that the boy has got. As long as he keeps progressing, that’s great for himself and the club.

“It’s the same with Tyrick getting into the team at a young age. He’s showing some very exciting traits. He reminds me of Wan-Bissaka when he was here and I watched him play. That’s a huge compliment to him.

“He’s very sharp, very quick and he’s learning all the time. [I’d say the positives were] getting the young players in the team and they’re all looking top players.”

The south Londoners are 13th in the Premier League and face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
