‘He is confident’ – Crystal Palace striker continues scoring run under Oliver Glasner in Man City defeat

Jean-Philippe Mateta found the back of the net for the seventh time this Premier League season in Crystal Palace’s 4-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

The French striker has been involved in 14 goals this season across all competitions for the Eagles, scoring 10 and assisting four times.

Mateta, 26, has found the back of the net four times since Glasner arrived at Selhurst Park.

City found the back of the net four times – scoring three in a dominant second half spell – as they moved level with Liverpool at the top of the Prmeier League.

“JP is in very good shape. He scores goals – he is confident,” said Glasner after the defeat.

“He makes these runs in behind and this was one of the topics of the analysts [before the game] because City play a very high line.

“He did it, and we know he has speed and pace – he had a great finish.

“I don’t want to talk about single players after a game. Somebody has to win the ball before the goal, somebody has to solve the situation because we go into counter press.

“Adam Wharton played an excellent pass with one touch in behind.

“He’s the guy who scored but there are other players involved in the situation.”
