Johnnie Jackson answers question over winger’s AFC Wimbledon contract future – with current deal set to expire in January

Johnnie Jackson says AFC Wimbledon have not made any “firm decision” over whether they will extend Courtney Senior’s deal beyond January.

The winger joined the Dons on a short-term deal in October until the January transfer window following the knee injury that Nathan Young-Coombes picked up in the 2-0 defeat to Northampton.

Senior, 25, has made 10 appearances in all competitions since joining the South Londoners. His one start in League Two came in the 0-0 draw away with Salford after Ayoub Assal was missing through suspension.

He scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 win over Harrogate Town, equalising for the Dons to bring the scoreline back to 2-2.

Brentford loanee Young-Coombes returned to training last week.

Senior, who told our paper he would be keen to extend his stay until the end of the season, did not feature in the previous two wins over Tranmere and Grimsby in the league.

“We haven’t made a firm decision on anything as far as that [Senior’s future] is concerned,” Jackson told the South London Press.

“Courtney has had to bide his time for opportunities as well. When he has played, he has done well. 

“But the team at the minute – the 11 who are being selected – are performing really well. 

“These boys have to be ready for when they do come on. Courtney trains hard, he has got a really good attitude and he has bought into what we’re trying to do.

“He just needs to keep doing that up until that moment when we need to make the decision on him.”
