Lee Bowyer: Latest twist in Charlton ownership crisis has meant we’ve missed out on an Arsenal loanee

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has revealed that the latest twist in the ownership crisis at The Valley has meant he has missed out on a loan target from Premier League side Arsenal.
Thomas Sandgaard’s Addicks takeover hopes were dealt a blow in midweek as a judge granted Paul Elliott an interim injunction in order to approach the court of appeal over his decision not to award a full injunction to halt Panorama Magic’s sale of East Street Investments.
The South Londoners are still under a transfer embargo due to their boardroom difficulties and Bowyer was frustrated that what seemed like good news with the court’s decision to deny the injunction on Tuesday was derailed by the temporary agreement on Wednesday.
Bowyer said: “I thought it was done on Tuesday. Wednesday, I spoke to a player and said look, we’ve got over this barrier now. It’s not going to be long now, please just hold on for us.
“Later on Wednesday someone tells me that this is happening and I’m thinking what happened there then. I thought that was it, it was done. Disappointing because it makes it more difficult. Players are only going to wait around for so long. We’re trying to persuade them but it’s out of my hands.
“We’ve just lost a player – we had a player from Arsenal lined up and we’ve just lost him yesterday. they’ve said no, we can’t do what they want us to do financially, which we’ve done in the past with Krystian (Bielik) and Stephy (Mavididi). So now he’s gone somewhere else in our division. That’s disappointing because he would have made a big difference to us.
“I met [Sandgaard] on Monday. We had a good conversation and came across as a really nice man. He was saying the right things. The sooner it can happen, the better for the football club. All I want is for someone to come in and be normal. Then maybe have a chance to build something. This is what I’ve thought with the last two groups to come in and it hasn’t been that way.”
Bowyer did reveal however, after Saturday’s 3-1 League Cup win at Swindon, that he hopes to add a new body to his squad this week, adding: “Hopefully there’s someone else coming in during the early part of next week and that will boost us as well. It’s a good player, that’s all I will say.”
