Lions loan ace Burey must learn to deal with injury setback

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has tipped young forward Tyler Burey to come back “fitter” after the talented youngster was rocked by an injury blow this week, writes Daniel Marsh.

The 20-year-old had sparkled during the early stages of a long-term loan move to Hartlepool in League Two.

Burey had racked up an assist and three goals in just five games before suffering a serious hamstring tear during Hartlepool’s 1-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers at the weekend – just days before he was nominated for the League Two Player of the Month award.

And Rowett confirmed that Burey’s prognosis wasn’t great after the ex-AFC Wimbledon man returned to SE16 for treatment on the injury.

“It’s a disappointing prognosis,” said the Lions boss. “It’s quite a serious one – he’ll be out for months rather than weeks unfortunately.

“We’re still waiting on the exact timescale from the specialist.

“It’s certainly not the news we wanted to hear after he’d made such a strong start.

“It happens though. It’s part of a young player’s career, those ups and downs.

“That’s football – he goes there and scores three goals for Hartlepool and looks as though he’s going to be a brilliant, brilliant player for them and then gets a bad injury and is out for a while.

“He’s now got to manage that rehab process and make sure he comes back fitter and still has a chance to effect Hartlepool’s season.”

Burey, signed from the Dons two years ago, made 15 sub appearances for the Lions last season and started in the Lions’

2-0 FA Cup win at Boreham Wood in January. He had played five times for AFC Wimbledon, including twice in the Football League Trophy.
