Lucien Favre agrees Crystal Palace move – Swiss boss set to sign three-year contract

Crystal Palace are closing in on the appointment of former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre as Roy Hodgson’s replacement at Selhurst Park.

Favre has been out of work since leaving the Bundesliga side in December and is keen to ply his trade in the Premier League.

The Swiss manager, 63, held positive talks with the Palace board last weekend and negotiations are now at an advanced stage.

The Athletic are reporting that Favre will join Palace on a three-year deal when a work permit has been secured.

Nicknamed ‘The Brain,’ he took French side Nice to the Champions League in 2018 and has previously enjoyed successful spells at Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin. The former midfielder has also been praised for his ability to develop young talent and play an attractive style of football.

Favre will end Palace’s seven-week hunt for a new manager. The Eagles had been close to appointing Nuno Espirito Santo but the Portuguese manager made a fresh set of demands as the deal drew to a close. Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper and Frank Lampard had also been in contention during the drawn-out process.

Favre will have the task of addressing Palace’s out of contract players, with key squad members such as Joel Ward, Gary Cahill, Andros Townsend and Scott Dann are just four of the 11 names poised to leave the club at the beginning of July.
