‘Major concern’ – AFC Wimbledon condemn FA Cup replay decision

AFC Wimbledon have condemned the decision by the Football Association to scrap replays in the FA Cup.

The Dons won the competition in 1988 after a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Wembley – Lawrie Sanchez’s 37th minute strike the difference.

The new plans would see all rounds of the competition played on weekends.

The changes come as part of a new six-year agreement between the FA and the Premier League.

Wimbledon’s statement read: “AFC Wimbledon condemn the unilateral decision taken by The FA and the Premier League to change the format of the FA Cup.

“There was no consultation with clubs lower in the football pyramid, nor with fans.

“It is a source for major concern and we condemn the changes and process wholeheartedly.

“We urge The FA to pause the plans and conduct a thorough game-wide consultation.”
