Matt Taylor admits Millwall played most of Wednesday’s match in Rotherham’s defensive half

Rotherham United manager Matt Taylor admitted that Millwall controlled Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw at The New York Stadium.

Dan Barlaser put the Millers ahead from the spot but the Lions came roaring back as Zian Flemming nailed a strike into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Taylor – a former Charlton Athletic defender and who won the League One title with them – was only appointed by the Yorkshire based side on Tuesday.

Taylor said: “We have to be honest, most of the game was in our defensive half. But Millwall haven’t cut us open.

“From that point on [after Rotherham’s goal] we were a little bit open and a little bit chaotic. We lacked a bit of quality at times. I couldn’t fault the amount of energy those boys put into it.

“There’s lots to work on. Certain aspects of our game can be improved straightaway.

“Our set-pieces were poor. We didn’t create anything on the back of those. It was important to get something on the board after Saturday against Wigan.

“We [him and his management team] could have taken the easy option tonight and sat in the stands and judged from afar, but we wanted to be part of it.

“We wanted the players who took the team last week [Richard Wood and Lee Peltier] to concentrate on their job and play, it was important we took responsibility.”
