Millwall boss confirms plans for Scotland training base as part of build up for next Championship season

Gary Rowett has confirmed that Millwall’s plan for pre-season is to travel to Scotland for a week-long training camp.

The Lions will head to the Oriem, the national sports centre in Edinburgh. They also went there last year.

Speaking to Millwall’s club website, Rowett said: “We’re going to go back to Scotland, it’s not quite finalised yet, but that’s the plan.

“It’s so difficult at the moment to plan with any clarity. Of course the last thing we want to do is create a pre-season camp in a different county that might not be open, or that has limited travel there in the next five or six weeks.

“I felt it was easier to do something we have done before, we had a really good camp last year and hopefully we’ll have some more things open to us this time around.

“We’re going to go back to the national training centre in Scotland, the facilities are fabulous, we’ll have four or five days there and maybe play a game at the end of it.

“Hopefully we can have a similar strong week of training there, just like last year.

“I’ve seen very good pre-season campaigns and the team start the season poorly. I’ve also seen really poor pre-seasons and they start the season well.

“You’ve just got to do what you have done previously. I like to have that week quite early on, so we haven’t got too many games to concentrate on.

“For me it’s a training camp and we go there to train two or three times a day. We go there to put some good work in and part of that is of course building some camaraderie.”
