Millwall boss disappointed to see Blackburn game postponed – with midfielder ruled out for four weeks

Gary Rowett has revealed that Maikel Kieftenbeld is out for four weeks – after he was not named in the squad to take on Blackburn Rovers before it was postponed.

The Lions’ fixtures at Ewood Park was called off 45 minutes prior to kick-off due to the weather conditions.

Rowett told BBC London: “We have injuries, Maikel Kieftenbeld is out for four weeks, add him to the list. We’re in a position where we want to play games, we want to keep this run going, we’ve performed well in recent weeks and certainly against QPR was probably the best we’ve performed for a long time.

“We wanted to play the game, the players wanted to play the game but the rest of it unfortunately, we couldn’t control.”

“It’s incredibly disappointing, not least because we travelled all the way up here, our fans travelled all the way up here in difficult conditions.

“We made it clear that we wanted the game on. I can’t change [it], people have to make those decisions and it’s very easy to put blame on people. But we wanted to play the game, it wasn’t easy conditions but we felt the game was playable. Hugely disappointing.

“We did some lovely movement in trainers as well [when standing on the pitch kicking the ball around with Adam Barrett]. If we were going to fall over, we were going to fall over.

“We were trying to make it clear that the game was ok, that we felt the ball rolled. It wasn’t easy, it was a matter of time to clear.

“The referees main concern was the waterlogged pitch, it was quite heavy. But we’re in good form, we wanted the game on.”
