Millwall captain Alex Pearce hails ‘team effort’ in 2-0 victory at Preston

Alex Pearce was full of praise for his team-mates as Millwall bagged a 2-0 victory against Preston North End at Deepdale on Tuesday.
Pearce, Shaun Williams and Under 23’s boss Kevin Nugent led from the dugout after the entire first team coaching staff had been forced to self isolate because four out of five of them tested positive for COVID-19.
“Really happy with how the boys played,” said Pearce. “The gaffer set us up via zoom and me and Willo [Shaun Williams] just used our voices to implement his plan.
“I thought the lads stuck to it to a man. I thought defence was very, very solid – we limited them to very little shots or even looks at our goal which was the plan.
“Also I felt we looked very dangerous on the counter-attack into the space going into their back four. We did that very well tonight. It was a positive night all round.”
Just like Saturday’s game against Barnsley, Rowett did keep in touch with the bench and addressed the players at half-time.
Pearce said: “We had a call with him at half-time – he’s been in contact over the last 48 hours and been a massive help to me and Willio. Nuge [Kevin Nugent] has been part of us as well and he’s got that experience. He’s worked at management level as well so for me and Willio to lean on him has been great – a real team effort and a great night for the club.”
