‘Needed to be recognised’ – Dons boss on new contract for defender
Young defender Isaac Ogundere signed a new contract with AFC Wimbledon last week.
The 20-year-old academy graduate has started every game this season so far under Dons boss Johnnie Jackson, with Huseyin Biler currently missing through injury.
Former Charlton boss Jackson handed Ogundere his Wimbledon debut, with the versatile defender featuring 26 times in all competitions.
Ogundere has penned a new deal which will keep him at Plough Lane until 2025.
“He has so much potential,” said Jackson after the 3-0 win on Saturday at Sutton United.
“He deserved his new contract. He’s playing week in, week out, in a good side and at a good level.
“That needed to be recognised. The club did the right thing by him and he’s delighted.
“He can go on and be a top player. He just needs to keep learning and stay grounded.
“But he’s a real humble lad. There are no worries about him getting carried away. He’s playing really well and deserves his place in the team.
“If you’re in the team and playing well, you tend to stay in. Long may that continue for him.”
