Patrick Vieira backs Palace youngster to be Premier League player after debut against Newcastle

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira praised David Ozoh after the young midfielder made his Premier League debut in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle on Saturday evening.

The 17-year-old became the youngest player ever to make a Premier League appearance for the Eagles, beating George Ndah’s 30-year record.

Ozoh, who signed a professional contract with the club in August, replaced Odsonne Edouard in the 90th minute at Selhurst Park. The midfielder was named on the bench for games against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Manchester United this season.

“It was good for him to get involved,” said Vieira. “What is really interesting about David is that he has been training with the first team for the last couple of weeks.

“Even last year, he spent time with us. It’s really good to see how he is improving week after week. He’s somebody who will be involved in training and be around the first team.

“He has the attributes to be a Premier League player. He can play. When he gets the ball on the field, he remains calm and makes some really good decisions in possession. Of course, physically, he is gifted and can compete at this level.

“Now it’s important to keep working with him and help him develop in the right way.”
