QPR boss Marti Cifuentes has his say on impact of new signings in Norwich City draw

Marti Cifuentes praised the impact of all four of QPR’s January signings in his side’s 2-2 draw with Norwich City on Saturday.

Having taken the lead through Jack Colback in a first half in which loan additions Isaac Hayden and Joe Hodge impressed, Rangers fell behind in the second half courtesy of goals from Kenny McLean and Josh Sargent.

Cifuentes’ side rescued a point through two recent arrivals, as Lucas Andersen crossed for Michael Frey to turn home an equaliser.

“I am very happy for all of the new players,” said the QPR head coach.

“The rest of the squad have welcomed them in a very good way and they know they are here to help. They are showing great professionalism.

“Isaac had a great game until he was cramping a lot, and we wanted him ready for Stoke [on Wednesday] as well.

“Lucas… fantastic assist, good situations as well but the assist to Frey was brilliant.

“Frey with a fantastic touch [for the equaliser] and just before that he got a good header that was almost a goal as well.

“All of these four players are coming from situations we need to take into account that they will take a few weeks to be at their best version physically.

“All of them are in a similar situation. Frey was training but not playing games, Lucas was in a kind of pre-season because the Danish league has a break in January – so has had a high load of training after a small break for Christmas.

“Joe has been training with Wolves but has not played 90 mins in a long time. The accumulation [of minutes] in the last week was something we needed to take into account.

“Isaac is a bit the same. Since he came back to Newcastle from mid-December, he has not been playing through January.

“All of them are good professionals, good physically but they need match fitness to regain full shape. They showed a fantastic performance so I am looking forward to see what they can do with the rest of the guys.”
