QPR hit three goals at Hull City…but Warburton still demanding more ruthless touch
Mark Warburton was pleased with QPR’s performance against Hull – but says his team still need to be more ruthless in front of goal.
Goals from Lyndon Dykes, Rob Dickie and Chris Willock meant the R’s left the MKM Stadium with all three points.
Warburton said: “It’s really pleasing, Hull is a tough place to come, they headed into this one after a really good away win at Preston. It was their first league game at home in front of their supporters, we knew they would come out with a real intensity, and we had to meet that challenge.
“Fortunately, to our credit we did that right from the start, we controlled it. We then had a loose spell, where we didn’t take care of the ball, but the goal changed it.
“When you are a team that likes to look after the football, goals allow you to have a bit more space to play in and that can make a huge difference.
“In the second half we had a moment where we had to stand up and defend our goal, a period in which we could have easily conceded, but we stood up and showed character.
“Seny was strong, commanding in his goal, Rob, Yoann and Jordy were outstanding.
“There are so many positives today, we looked good. Jordy was outstanding from start to finish, we didn’t allow them to put balls in the box, we didn’t give away any needless free-kicks, we won the second balls and we were dangerous.
“Despite the result, we still have to be more ruthless, we had a chance in the first half where Ilias got in a great position to have a strike on goal but he could only hit the side netting.
“We know that he has the quality to do better, but they are the moments which can kill the game and we have to be more ruthless in those types of situations.”
“However, don’t take anything away from the performance, I think teams will find it very difficult to come here and get points so I am very pleased.”
