‘Ridiculous’ – Johnnie Jackson frustrated with penalty decisions in AFC Wimbledon’s 1-0 win against Stockport County

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson believed that referee James Oldham got both penalty calls wrong in their 1-0 win against Stockport County on Saturday at Plough Lane.

The visitors were awarded a chance to take the lead from 12 yards in the 30th minute when Nik Tzanev was adjudged to have purposely collided with Kyle Knoyle inside the area.

Myles Hippolyte took the penalty for Stockport, but Tzanev got down well to his left-hand side to push the effort away from goal and keep his clean sheet intact.

“I didn’t think it was a penalty,” said Jackson.

“I haven’t seen it back, but you always see that on the football pitch.

“The ball is going out for a goal kick – there is no danger. They weren’t going to score in that situation, yet they got an opportunity to.

“It doesn’t sit right with me.”

The Dons wanted a penalty of their own in the second half when Josh Davison was brought down inside Ben Hinchcliffe’s penalty area after charging towards goal.

But the referee waved play on.

“The one that isn’t given on Josh is ridiculous,” added Jackson.

“That’s twice against Stockport. It’s not their fault, so I don’t mean that as any slur against Stockport, but we had a stonewall one turned down at their place in the second half, and it’s happened again.

“It’s not cost us today, but we have been on the wrong end of a few of late.

“We have had two red cards rescinded this year and some dubious penalty shouts as well, I will say.”

Harry Pell’s header in the 49th minute sealed all three points for the Dons.
