Roy Hodgson: Crystal Palace performance against Burnley was unsatisfactory

BY SAM SMITH

Crystal Palace’s performance in their 3-0 defeat against Burnley was unsatisfactory, manager Roy Hodgson has admitted.

The South Londoners fell behind to two goals inside the opening 10 minutes. They then conceded another two minutes into the second half. There was barely a semblance of evidence that a comeback would be likely.

It is Palace’s fourth defeat in their last six matches. Burnley had scored just twice in their last nine away matches before their visit to Selhurst Park.

Hodgson said: “It was pretty obvious that it was a performance that we cannot be satisfied with, or proud of. We were beaten clearly by a better team.

“They scored two goals and we didn’t ever look like getting back into the game after those two goals. We did establish a little bit more possession but they [Burnley] dealt with our attacks quite easily. We were still finding it quite hard to deal with their attacks.

“The goals, whenever they come, affect games. But it is never ideal to start a game two goals behind against any opponent, let alone an opponent as good as Burnley were today.

“I’m afraid it is one of those defeats that you have to take on the chin. I don’t think there will be any of us going home today thinking: ‘We did the best possible job we could do.’”
