Roy Hodgson provides Michael Olise fitness update after Crystal Palace’s win over Brentford

Roy Hodgson has provided a fitness update on Michael Olise after the Crystal Palace attacker pulled up with a fitness issue in the 3-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.

The 22-year-old scored his first brace for the Eagles against the Bees since joining from Reading in the 2021-22 campaign.

Olise pulled up towards the final whistle and signalled to the bench that he needed to come off.

The ex-Chelsea and Man City youngster has five goals and one assist already to his name this season.

“I can’t tell you,” said Hodgson when asked about the initial severity of the former Reading youngster’s problem.

“I spoke to him and he didn’t seem overly concerned. I spoke with the doc and he wasn’t shaking his head to suggest that he [Olise] needed a scan tomorrow and we might have to fear the worst – he wasn’t doing that.

“We don’t know until he gets back into training and we assess it. It would be really unlucky.

“I don’t think it was a major snap of a muscle, but unfortunately, we’re in that period of football life where you’re playing 20 games and with three games in a week, so I’m afraid people are going to pick up muscle injuries.”
