South London’s World Cup fever for England fans

England fans are finally enjoying a World Cup, none more so than those who have squeezed themselves into venues across South London. Videos of wild celebrations in Brixton, Croydon and Southwark have gone viral, with bleary-eyed, red-faced supporters dreamily singing Three Lions.

England have now secured their place in the quarter finals and we have put together a selection of the three best spots to watch what could be England’s best World Cup run in decades.

• Hootananny in Brixton has converted its beer garden into a cauldron of noise for the World Cup.
  Hundreds of Brixton boys and girls have packed out the garden so far.
  Burrito and pizza stalls have been churning out food on the side while the bar is usually two to three people deep.
• Southwark’s Flat Iron Square has installed a number of screens showing both the World Cup and Wimbledon.
  It benefits from both a big outdoor screen and an indoor screen, with a few smaller screens dotted around the site.
• Boxpark Croydon are offering a bit of culture to go with the booze and big screens.
  Artist Tom Griffiths has created a 32 piece series illustrating each nation competing in this year’s tournament.
